Technology from Digital View is distributing HDTV quality video through the trains on Hong Kong's KCRC rail system

HONG KONG, CHINA - The highly successful KCRC is one of the two rail operators in Hong Kong and averages over 1.3 million passenger rides a day. In 2003 they decided to establish an on-train media network on some of their main lines and working together with Shun Hing and Phoenix Asia engaged Digital View to provide some of the key technology.

The objective was to provide high definition quality video throughout the train delivering media to a number of 22" high resolution 16:9 LCD screens in every carriage. Amongst the particular technical challenges were the requirements that it be all digital and include redundancy to ensure failsafe delivery of the media.

Train environments are highly demanding in terms of engineering, required reliability and the approvals standards required. This is where Digital View's extensive transport related experience and expertise played a key role as well as the portfolio of technical solutions developed over many years working with digital media and digital displays.
